SHETLAND ISLANDS MITOCHONDRIAL (MATERNAL LINE) DNA RESULTS
HAPLOGROUP "V" (VELDA)
Name:  Janet GOUDIE (daughter of James GOUDIE and Janet SINCLAIR) was born 1788
Dunrossness (kit # 81229).
Motif:  CRS, 72C, 195C, 263G, 315.1C.
Subclade:  V.
Matches:  Since the HVR1 motif is CRS it would make sense that the haplogroup is
"H".  FTDNA must have determined that, via the HVR2 the haplotype is the closely
allied V.  Haplogroup V is scattered across Europe with "hotspots" in the Basque
country of Spain and in Finland among the Saami.  This distribution is not easily
explained.  It is likely that after the Last Glacial Maximum haplogroup V expanded
eastward from the Franco - Cantabrian Refugium.  No high resolution matches were
found so the HVR2 results do not provide any geographical specificity.  The Shetland
Database of 503 samples found in the Goodacre study located numerous CRS
haplotypes but it is unknown how many would have been haplogroup V is HVR2 had
been tested.  Hence the results are unfortunately not at this time very informative.  It
is hoped that over time more entires will be made in the Mitosearch database.
