**** Please note that we require at least 3 of every Shetland surname to ensure that there is only one signature for that name. This applies most directly to those whose surname has a Scottish Mainland or Orkney derivation. For any surname ending in "son", thanks to Norse patronymic naming traditions, we will need 7 or more participants in order to ensure reasonable coverage since those with these surnames will not necessarily be related to each other, but more likely to others with different "son" surnames. |
