MAP of BARTON TOWNSHIP, WENTWORTH COUNTY, ONTARIO 1875 |
Most of the descendants of Sgt. Daniel Young were born or brought up in Barton Township near Ryckman's Cormers. Prior to about 1830, many of his children went to the Grand River to occupy and later purchase Indian land. For example Daniel's eldest suviving son, Peter, purchased a number of parcels of land in the area that is today Caledonia; whereas all of the children of his second youngest child, James F. stayed in Barton. The main Young farm (that owned by Sgt. Daniel Young and Dorothy Elizabeth (Windecker) Young) was Concession 8 (at the base of the map), Lots 12 and 13. As can be seen here, in 1875 this home farm was owned by James F. Young and his sons Calvin and Alexander, and the family had added Lots 11 and 10 to their holdings (as well as parcels of residential land in nearby Hamilton). |
