| PATRICK CAMPBELL DIARY - 1793, Page 180 |
| Here Campbell describes his visit with Lt. John Young and his wife who he indicates was the sister of the Chief of the Mohawk Nation who succeeded Captain David (whose Mohawk name was Karonghyontye). The chief who succeeded Captain David was his nephew in the maternal line, Captain Seth Hill Kanenkaregowagh, who assumed the chiefship "Astawenserontha" via the latter's mother Mary Hill Kateriunigh. Catharine, wife of Lt. John Young, was Catharine Hill, daughter of John Seth'son and the above Mary. Had it not been for this diary, it would not have been possible to construct the genealogy of Catharine (Hill) Young noted below. |
